INTRODUCTION

“Tigger’s @ Downfield” is a 55-place full time daycare establishment catering for children aged between birth and 5 years.  The nursery operates between the hours of 07.30 and 18.00 Monday to Friday, 51 weeks per year.

There is a private car park next to the nursery building for your convenience. We are almost in the Marling School grounds, which is calm and peaceful and situated safely away from any main roads.

The nursery consists of 3 main age groups, which briefly comprise of: -

Pre-school: A large, spacious and bright classroom, with a separate craft / messy play area. The classroom is specifically designed for 3-5 year olds, providing toys and equipment to encourage curiosity and promote independence. There are separate child-sized toilets.

There are two large outdoor play areas with equipment designed to promote the children’s co-ordination and balancing skills. One area has safety rubber bark and climbing equipment, where the children can run round safely and burn off steam!  The other is a play road with traffic lights, parking zone, mini round-a-bout and pedestrian crossing for the children to ride their cars and trykes, whilst learning road saftey and awareness!

There is also a new secrete garden, where the children can have some chill out time, listening to the wind chimes and water their lovingly planted flowers and veggies.  The area is decked with seating, which is protected from the rain/sun by a plastic roof above a large wooden pegola.

The gardens are securely fenced for the children’s safety.

Mini-Nursery: A separate room for 2-3 year olds, which is also brightly decorated and equipped with age appropriate toys. There are separate child-sized toilets with nappy changing facilities.

This group also uses the gardens, road and secrete garden.

Babies: 3 rooms on the first floor can be used to separate young babies from the older rising 2’s. We currently take 15 babies from age birth-2 years. The rooms are brightly decorated and stimulating for the babies with brightly coloured age appropriate toys and push and rides. There is a separate messy play room for the children to experiment with sand, water, play dough, painting etc.

Babies can go for walks in the double pushchairs around the gardens of the school, weather permitting. The babies also have their own soft floored area outside complete with baby swing, mini climbing apparatus, pirate play ship, sand, water and craft table for lots of outdoor stimulation and activities.  The play area is screened by sun safe sails and is fenced off from the other two areas, so is not used by the older children.

Staff members have qualifications ranging from NVQ levels 3, 4, 5 & B Ed in Early Years (Qualified Teacher) and Early Years Professional Status (EYP) level 6.

Kelly Price, Manager has level 4 Childcare & Education and Level 5 Management.  Kelly has worked at Tigger's in both settings and in all of the rooms over an eight year period.  Kelly specialises particulary in the birth-three age group, as she ran the baby unit at Westonbirt for 5 years!

All of our staff members also achieve Paediatric First Aid, Safe Guarding Children Training and Food Health/Hygiene awards.  The committed team also attend regular Foundation Stage Liason Meetings and various other training courses to enable them to keep updated and fully trained in childcare and education.

The main aim of the nursery is to provide a stimulating and welcoming environment for the children in it's care.  Attendance will promote and develop each child and ultimately prepare the child for school, meeting their individual needs. With the emphasis on play and active learning we aim to promote their social, emotional, physical and intellectual skills in a safe environment.  Staff are continually developing and enhancing their knowledge through training and assesment to provide consistancy and raising quality for the children in their care.

 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

“Tigger’s @ Downfield Private Day Nursery” aims to provide first class care and education for all children to work in close partnership with parents/carers.

We aim to provide a stimulating and warm environment with a home culture, so that each child will gain confidence in his/her new surroundings and develop an awareness of new situations. We encourage the children to develop a sense of independence and an interest in exploring their natural surroundings. Children are recognised as having their own physical, social, emotional, language, cultural and intellectual needs.

Children are treated equally, irrespective of race, religion, gender origin or culture. We firmly believe in lots of cuddles and affection as we feel this promotes a sense of value and well being in each child.

Children are encouraged to be sociable and develop friendships during their time at nursery and to care for other children around them. We encourage the level of noise throughout the day, to remain at an acceptable level so that children can concentrate and work on particular activities without unnecessary distractions. This needs little enforcement as children are naturally curious and become engrossed in their work. There is always the opportunity to let off steam in the outside playtimes, during gym and during music and movement.

 SESSIONS

The nursery is open from 07.30 – 18.00 Monday to Friday, except on Public holidays when we close. We operate 51 weeks a year closing only for the Christmas week.

  MEALS

Tigger’s @ Downfield has been awarded 5**** scores on the doors for 2009. We also won this grade in 2008 and 2007, by Stroud District Council, who were so impressed with our standards of hygiene and the quality and range of our healthy meals that she awarded us there and then! As we have a qualified chef the standard of our meals are excellent. No sugar or salt is added to any meal and we use lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.

The children will, depending on their hours of attendance, receive breakfast, a mid morning snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack and tea. We encourage the children to relax and take their time during meal times and we view this regular group meeting as an important opportunity for language and social development and the development of independence skills.

Wherever possible the children are offered fresh fruit and vegetables.

Children set the table and pour their own drinks (some with help) and at snack time select their own fruit. Children take it in turns to take the plates around their table and offer the other children snacks.

All food is provided in the fees however the babies must supply their own formula milk.

Parents must inform the Nursery Manager of any special dietary requirements / allergies. A letter is required from a GP for any allergies and their consequences, so that we are prepared at all times for the safety of a child.
